Toby Keith's Daughter Shares Dad's Reaction to Wedding Song

Krystal Keith, 'Daddy, Dance With Me': Toby Keith's Daughter Shares Dad's Reaction to Wedding Song

Krystal Keith has just released the poignant new single, "Daddy, Dance With Me," from her self-titled debut EP. The song, written as a surprise for her dad, country superstar Toby Keith, so that the pair could dance to it on her wedding day, left everyone at the reception in tears -- except for her famous father (pictured above with Krystal, left, and Tricia, his wife of 29 years).

"He did not cry," Krystal tells The Boot. "We had 65 people in Cabo [for the wedding], and every single person was completely bawling. He walked off and my husband said, 'That didn't even get you a little bit? You didn't cry at all?' He said, 'I almost shed a tear, but I'm a professional.' He's in control of his emotions."

While Toby managed to keep his feelings under wraps, Krystal reveals her dad was completely taken aback by the sweet song. "He was shocked that I pulled it off," she explains. "You can't pull anything over on him. Every surprise party, every time we try to pull a prank on him -- I challenge somebody to prank him because you just can't do it. So the fact that I kind of pulled one over on him surprised him."

Krystal currently lives in Oklahoma with her husband, who works in the energy industry, "It's fabulous," she gushes about married life. "We've been together nine years, so almost a decade. I met him my first month of freshman year of college. He moved here for college, he was going to OU. He grew up about 30 minutes north of my hometown, Norman, until he was 13, and then he came back to Oklahoma for college."

Krystal's EP, which contains three additional songs, is available now. Her album,Whiskey & Lace, will be released later this year.

Toby Keith will celebrate 10 years of The Toby Keith & Friends Golf Classic on May 10-11 at Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma. The event benefits OK Kids Korral, a cost-free home-away-from home for pediatric cancer patients, and will welcome even more celebrity golfers to the lineup. It will also include morning and afternoon shotgun starts for the first time in the event’s history.
“Our tenth year event is really a ‘thank you’ to all of those people who have supported us over the years,” said Toby Keith. “Ten years goes by fast when you are working toward a goal this big.”
The 10th anniversary of the golf classic will feature an evening of entertainment, fine food and live and silent auctions before a day of golf. Over the years, funds from the event have supported hundreds of pediatric cancer patients, helped with renovations to the Oncology Unit at The Children’s Hospital and will now go directly toward completing construction on OK Kids Korral.
“Our goal is to make life a little easier for families of children diagnosed with cancer,” Juliet Nees-Bright, Executive Director of The Toby Keith Foundation, said. “They are battling for their lives and we want to join their fight.”
The Golf Classic raises most of its funds from its live and silent auctions.  Notable items up for bid this year include tickets to the ACM Awards, naming rights to a room in OK Kids Korral, a TPC Sawgrass Golf Getaway in Ponte Vedre Beach, Fla., a Los Angeles Talk Show ticket package and passes to the Emmy Awards. Silent auction items include memorabilia from Taylor Swift,Charlie Daniels, Jimmy Buffet, Derek Jeter, Mia Hamm, Blake Griffin and Toby Keith himself.

Toby Keith Radio Popularity

Toby Keith Radio Popularity Makes Singer a 'Million-Air'

Toby Keith has often said that awards for his songwriting mean the most. The country superstar received more of those honors this week when he was recognized by performance rights organization Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) for several of his songs reaching more than 15 million airplays, including "How Do You Like Me Now," "Beer for My Horses," "She Never Cried in Front of Me," "God Love Her," "I Love This Bar" and "Who's Your Daddy."

This honor, known as the Million-air award, goes to songwriters, composers and publishers whose songs have had more than one million U.S. broadcast performances. Toby's awards were for both his songwriting and publishing endeavors.

"If you went back to the first pickup I had, there were three boxes of cassettes in there," Toby explains to The Boot of his love for songwriting. "There were probably 90 albums, and you would find seven or eight Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard, four or five Charlie Daniels, some Roger Miller, Billy Joel, KISS, Elton John, Bob Seger, Hoyt Axton, Johnny Cash, the Eagles, Dolly Parton. As you look through that box at the music I listened to, the common denominator was that they were all singer/songwriters.

"I didn't set out to not buy the great stylists like George Strait, Travis Tritt, Conway Twitty, Elvis ... but subconsciously, I just gravitated toward singer/songwriters. I was more impressed and amazed and a bigger fan of those who wrote songs, no matter how famous they were. Those guys didn't get me going like a Hoyt Axton or somebody who wasn't as famous. Hoyt was amazing. There was a time when Willie wasn't famous, but he wrote "Crazy." I think that early bond to that element ... it was just some connection to people who express themselves through creative writing. It connected with me and I've never got very far from it."

Toby has reached more than 80 million airplays with songs he has written, according to Clay Bradley, BMI assistant vice president of writer/publisher relations. "We have been honored to work with him since early in his career, and he shows no signs of stopping now."

The BMI "Million-Air" Award is a mark of respect and praise for the longevity and resilience of a songwriter's music. One million continuous performances of a song of the average length of 3 minutes represents 5.7 years of continuous airplay. The 80 million performances represents 456 years of continuous airplay for Toby.

Suit over Toby Keith's rent dropped

Suit over Toby Keith's rent dropped

The lawsuit against Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill over $121,000 in unpaid rent has been dismissed, developers of The Banks have confirmed.
The developers, the Dawson Co. and Carter, sued the bar in February, saying it had failed to pay three months’ rent.
Toby Keith’s replied via Facebook that it was withholding rent because developers violated the lease by allowing another live country music venue to open at The Banks.
“We’re pleased that we could settle this before the suit moved any further,” said Scott Stringer, executive vice president at Carter.
Stringer didn’t release details of the settlement, and attorneys for the bar couldn’t be reached Tuesday.
Toby Keith’s was the first tenant announced at the new riverfront development between Paul Brown Stadium and Great American Ball Park. The commercial space in the first phase is now 94 percent leased.
The bar, one of a dozen Toby Keith’s owned by Arizona businessman Frank Capri, remained open throughout the dispute.
